Neelam Devi Ordered to Vacate Patna Government Residence by November 25
Former Mokama MLA Neelam Devi has been ordered to vacate her government residence at 1 Mall Road in Patna by November 25 after her committee appointment was cancelled, following her six-year expulsion from the JD(U).
Action against Mokama MLA Anant Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, continues, with the latter now facing eviction from her government-allotted residence in Patna following her expulsion from the Janata Dal (United), or JD(U), for six years.
The Building Construction Department has issued a notice directing Neelam Devi to vacate the government residence at 1 Mall Road by November 25. She had been allotted the accommodation after receiving the rank of Deputy Minister in her capacity as a member of the State-Level Programme Implementation Committee.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat Department, her nomination as a member of the committee has now been cancelled with immediate effect. The termination of her appointment has also triggered the process to reclaim the government accommodation allotted to her on the basis of her official status.
The notice, issued by the Joint Secretary-cum-Estate Officer of the Building Construction Department, states that Neelam Devi was granted the rank of Deputy Minister because of her membership in the State-Level Programme Implementation Committee. The government residence at 1 Mall Road was allotted to her on the same basis.
Following the Cabinet Secretariat Department's notification terminating her nomination with immediate effect, the Building Construction Department has directed her to vacate the premises by November 25.
Under the applicable rules, a person is required to vacate government accommodation within one month of the termination of their post or service. The deadline specified in the notice has been set in accordance with this provision.
Earlier, the JD(U) had expelled Anant Singh, the MLA from Mokama, and his wife, Neelam Devi, from the party for six years. Their primary membership was also terminated.
Alongside the expulsions, the party recommended the termination of Anant Singh's membership of the Bihar Legislative Assembly. However, the final decision on his Assembly membership remains subject to the relevant constitutional procedure.
The developments mark a further step in the action against the couple, with Neelam Devi now required to surrender her government accommodation following the cancellation of her committee appointment, while the question of Anant Singh's legislative membership awaits a decision through the prescribed constitutional process.
